OMAS Chianti Classico Special Edition Fountain Pen

OMAS and the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium, two icons of “Made in Italy,” are pleased to present the limited-edition “Chianti Classico Anniversary,” created jointly to celebrate Italian excellence.
This new collection of limited-edition writing instruments once again tells the story of our land and its artisanal traditions. Around the world, the “Black Rooster” emblem (Gallo Nero)—which distinguishes Chianti Classico production guaranteed by the Consortium—is synonymous with undisputed quality. Every wine has its own story, just as every writing instrument handcrafted by this historic Bolognese house does.
OMAS retraces the history of this exceptional wine—which will celebrate its tricentennial in 2016—by expertly working the very wood used to age Chianti Classico. It was on September 24, 1716, that Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici promulgated the edict in Florence that defined the territories of this appellation for the first time.

The sensory experience of tasting a Chianti Classico perfectly complements the pleasure of writing—this age-old ritual—and the time that each fountain pen offers us, both during its creation and in the act of writing.

It is in this spirit that OMAS designed a limited edition deeply rooted in artisanal tradition, where wood takes center stage. Each pen is a unique piece, with its own patterns and grain, revealing the characteristic natural hue of oak.

Each writing instrument combines oak with silver, which is finely engraved with motifs evoking the origins of this unique appellation. The depiction of the “Chianti Classico territory”—the native land of these precious grapes—adorns the pen body, while the year “1716,” the date of the founding edict, is engraved on the cap.

Finally, the “Black Rooster” emblem adorns each writing instrument: it can be found at the top of the cap, as well as at the very heart of the fountain pen, on the 18-karat gold nib, available in Extra-Fine, Fine, Medium, and Broad sizes. The Chianti Classico “Anniversary” limited edition consists of only 716 fountain pens and 300 rollerball pens, numbered and carefully presented in a collectible wooden box inspired by wine casks, in the purest tradition of Chianti Classico wine.
